    Maravich Photos

I've been looking for any Pete Maravich photo's (original or copies) from the Jazz/Knicks game in February of 1977. It was the game that Pete scored 68 points (career high), but it was also the first sporting event that my dad brought me to. We sat first row, baseline, next to the Olympic Brass Band.

I've looked for any pictures from that game for a couple of years and can't find ANY! I've searched Getty, Google, and called local newspapers in the South Louisiana area...and even talked to the gentleman that photographed Pete throughout his college career at LSU...and...I got NOTHING!

I know there is video of the game and I have a copy, but I am looking for a picture for a display. However, if there is one with me and my dad in the image, I will pay top dollar!

I was fortunate enough to meet Pete with my dad again shortly before he died and I want to give my dad a special "thanks" for all those special times we spent together!

    Any advise???

Jazz played in NY twice in 1976-77.
Most of Larry's Sixers photos are from that season.

Tom McMillen (#52) played 20 games with Buffalo in 1976-77, and 56 with the Knicks, so that pic could indeed be from the 2nd game.

Just checked. The first Jazz game in NY was their 4th game of the season, so the pic below should be from your game. I don't think Larry shot any NBA photos after 76-77. And McMillen was a Hawk that year anyway.

Check your video to see if Pete drives baseline on Tom

No idea if Larry had these dated or not. Shoot him an email.

Thanks for the lead! The game was actually in New Orleans. The Jazz wore white that night. Pete often wore knee pads in during that time of his career, but not that night.

I will send Larry a message to see if he can help!

    Thanks again!

you did, sir! I just sent Larry an email. Maybe it will lead to something!

Maravich's family lives about an hour from me. I'm sure they would have something, but I'm not sure how that would go. They would probably appreciate me exhausting all other efforts first before trying to contact them.

Try www.corbisimages.com and look for Maravich 1977 in editorial images (not creative).

They have two images of Maravich wearing a white uniform. One is from February (dated February 1) and the other is from January.

HOLY COW! I think both of those images are from that game! The one with Pete dribbling shows the Olympic Brass Band in the background. We sat just to the right of the drummer, but only in the second half. Those images are from the first half of the game, but this will definately work for what I have in mind!

Thanks for all of your help!!!

Was it a night game or day game?

It was a Friday night game. The video of the game is titled "The Night of the Pistol".

I would suggest that you go to the National Sports show in Chicago this summer. There are dealers there that have tons of wire photos, action photos, slides, etc,... of significant games. Also, most of of the sports auction houses set up there. Talk to them. A lot of them sell memorabilia from players' estates. I know SCP is currently selling memorabilia from Red Auerbach's family.
