    Be more vigilant!

Ebay does not police their members very well this is obvious. So i call on everyone here to call out the fakes on this board. You guys are doing this already but it needs to be done more!Game used and especially autographs. We have succeeded in getting that guy to remove the bogus Ruth ball,Jordan jerseys, and Ted Williams jersey.Thats big!But for every one we get off there are 10,000 fakes. This is a goddamn shame. So i of you all to take a few extra minutes to report these frauds on this board.Enough debate about items you may deem fraudulent could lead to getting these items removed and the sellers looking over there shoulder. Now remember some people may not realize they are selling fakes so you can not accuse them of wrongdoing only let them know that the item is bad.If it becomes a pattern with a certain seller(like the guy with the horrible Ruth ball) then action can be taken.I personally believe that it has somewhat become the responsibility of this sites members to keep an eye out.Even if only to protect fellow members.Maybe their should be another forum to debate bogus items?Although the repercussions of calling out the occasional legit item could be bad i believe it is worth it to get as many fakes as possible.Thoughts?

Just because an autograph looks like a forgery, doesn't always mean that it is. I once had Whitey Ford sign an autograph for me in the parking lot at Yankee Stadium. He had just left the clubhouse and although I was not equipped with a breatholizer, my guess is he was reading pretty high on the "richter scale" of inebriation. His signature was not the same as the ones that I see for sale at, say, Steiner's Collection. In fact, many autographs obtained in public places like at the ballpark, or in a restaurant or even in a men's room look very different from the ones obtained at card shows. We don't ALWAYS know.

    I agree with Yankwood.

I only collect autos of one player. When searching eBay, there are the ones "I don't like" because I'm confident they are bogus. But, there are also the ones "I don't like" that might be sloppy, his crowd auto, difficult to see against the background, etc.

There is one seller on eBay, I'd love to see disappear. He has multiple IDs (I know of 6) and has an endless supply of autos. Once the feedback number gets too high with one ID, he starts "selling off his collection" with a new one. Thing is, they are almost all on books or old magazines. I think he's simply come up with a great way to get rid of old publications. And he sells many of them in the $9.99 - $25.00 range. I actually emailed a buyer once and told him I was pretty sure the auto he'd just bought was a fake. He said, "Yeah, I think it might be, but for the price...". Fools!

I think my point may have been lost in my post.It is to start posting possible fakes and to create debate. If there is a 100% thinking that an item is fake we can go from there. You can usually figure out what a seller is all about if we are continually questioning his/her items.I believe by doing this there can be a atmosphere fear of doubt in a sellers mind when him/her is thinking about continuously selling fake items.Although we may only get a few,we can create a conscienceness for the members on this site about bogus items and where they come from.

I don't want to begin to think I am a mind reader. But, I think what Jon was trying to get across is "Good Job" on effective and well organized efforts to ensure innocent people did not get ripped off by an obvious scam artist. Then I believe he is simply saying if we see a similar situation we could do the same thing. I do not believe he was saying we should go off on any single item in a single episode. It was just that guy had a history, and was continuing to do it.

    Hi everyone,

I think the biggest danger to our hobby (both game used and autographs) are those sellers that appear to be "manufacturing" bogus items. By this I'm not talking about the ebay seller that (for example) has a few store model bats labeled as game used. That seller could just be mis-informed.

The sellers I'm talking about are those that appear to be in the process of manufacturing either game used items or autographed items. Seems there are some that we could almost start up our own "Operation Bullpen" investigation on them.

Sellers like that are taking money out of the pockets of innocent people and food out of the mouths of children. There is no shortage of material to make the items so they will continue to do so until they are stopped.

    My two cents,

    Hi Everyone,

Even though by the seller's response he would appear to be a prime example for the need of standardized testing in schools...on a brighter note the bats in question have both had their listings removed.

Sounds like the seller did the right thing.

    Thanks

I have now proven that with diplomacy and debate we can put some of these bad items away!No accusations just facts and manners worked here with this particular seller(and the threat of letting ebay know).

I know one member of our board was the buyer of the Arod but quickly learned it was fake and called him on it.Must have happened with the Griffey as well
