    Jackie Robinson patch question

To anyone's knowledge, was the "1947-1997 Jackie Robinson" patch worn in any year after 1997? I ask, because I'm looking at a signed Midwest League jersey, described as being from '97, with that patch on it, and it's signed by a former MLB player who, to my knowledge, had no affiliation with that team's minor league system, let alone that team, until at least ten years later.

The auction for this item ends today, so I was kind of hoping that somebody would have some input on the patch question. Anyone?

I believe 1997 was the only year it was worn. I've never seen it worn any year after.

I believe that Kyle is correct in saying that 1997 was the only season that the teams wore the Jackie Robinson patch. The Dodgers, Expos and Marlins wore special versions.

Not patch-related, but prior to every roster member now wearing #42 jerseys for Jackie Robinson Day, I think that the last time all the teams used a Jackie-related item for their uniforms was a sticker that was placed on the helmets in 2007. The sticker was positioned on the side of the helmet (above the ear flap) that faced the pitchers during the hitters' at-bats.

    Kind Regards,

    Ron.

Thanks for the input, those who provided it.

I went ahead and got the jersey, by the way.

Youngblood works for the Diamondbacks now, as a coordinator, so I'll make some inquiries in the organization and see about contacting him - ask him whether he recalls the circumstances of his signing this jersey, or can figure out why (and when) he might have done it.

The fact that the jersey is #18 makes me think that maybe Joel might have had a brief stint, in some capacity, with the DBacks organization in '97, and this jersey was his, 'cause he did wear 18 all the years he was with the Mets.

Exclamation Re: Jackie Robinson patch question

Actually, Ken Griffey Jr. wore #42 in a one-man tribute to Jackie Robinson during a 1990s Mariners game. I don't recall if it was 1997 or not, but it is shown on an Upper Deck card of the era. If I can find the card, I'll post a pic.
