Reno Bertoia, a native of Italy who spent 10 seasons as a reserve infirlder in the majors, died April 15 at age 76.
Bertoia's career began and ended with the Tigers, with stints on the original Wahington Senators (1959-60), Twins and Kansas City A's (both 1961) sandwiched in between.
He first appeared in a MLB game in 1953 at age 18. Bertoia was prmiarily a backup infielder and defensive specialist at the skill infield positions during his career, topping 100 games in a season only once (1960 Senators). He resided just across the border from Detroit, in Windsor, Canada.
