    Unhappy RIP: Duane Pillette

Duane Pillette, an original 1954 Baltimore Oriole who pitched for 8 years in the Majors, died May 6 at age 88.

Pillette came up with the Yankees, was dealt to the St. Louis Browns during the 1950 season, stayed with the Browns and joined them as they moved eastward to Baltimore, where he pitched through mid-1956, moving on to the Phillies to finish the season and his MLB career.

Pillette's lifetime won-loss record was dismal, as he spent the majority of his career with lousy Brown and early Orioles squads. He won 10 games in both 1952 and 1954, posting a respectable 3.12 ERA the second time around.

    Dave:

Pillette has a special place in Orioles lore as he was the first pitcher in their history to win a game for them (in Detroit)...

He was also very good to TTM autograph seekers.

    RIP
