Wade Boggs bat length - BMH?

Hey guys-

I ecently purchased a 1989 Wade Boggs b349 bat and was wondering the length of bats he ordered during that time frame. I read somewhere that he ordered 34.5 inch ones, but was that exclusive? Did he order any 34 inch bats? Also, when a bat is broken, do it loose a bit of length when measuing it straight up? For example, given the bow of the wood, would a 34.5 inch look like a 34 inch? Just curious.

During the 1986-89 label period, Boggs' orders of B349 model bats document the following as shipped to him:

34.5 inch, uncupped -- 1989
34 inch, cupped --1988 (BB Promo w/ specified weight)
34.5 inch, cupped --1988, 1989

When measuring a bat, cracked or uncracked, place the knob end against a flat surface and measure from the flat surface to the end of the barrel. You will be very accurate unless the bat is is totally broken / mangled

In the H & B records from mid 1981 forward, certain orders are invoiced to BB Miscellaneous or BB Promotions. Sometimes those orders are for specific models with specific lengths, weight, and finish. Other times, those orders may show no specific weight ( 0.0), no specific model (any), or some other similar non-specific characteristic.


It has been the practice of authenticators to authenticate those orders WITH specific model, length, weight (in particular), and finish as presumably having been ordered for the individual player for his personal professional use. For those orders that do not have a specific weight noted (generally), or are missing one of the other order characteristics, authenticators do not authenticate them as professional model bats, but rather as 'show' or 'promo' bats that were never intended for the individual player's personal professional use.


Of course, to make that distinction, an authenticator (or collector) would need to have access to individual players' H & B records, and that access is limited to a relatively small group of people.

Did Wade Boggs ever order the model M159? 86-89?

There are no documented orders of model M159 by Boggs at anytime during his career.
