David Ortiz hit 2 HRs for the Bosox en route to a 10-7 slugfest win over the Astros. The first of those two was Big Papi's 400th in a Red ox uniform, making him the third player in Red Sox history to hit 400 or more HRs while a member of the Red Sox (Ted Williams and Carl Yastrzemki were the first two).

With Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Cubs, the Orioles had a losing road trip for the first time in 2014, going 4-5 against Cleveland (O's lost 2 out of 3), the White Sox (O's wept) and the Cubs (O's were swept).

In tonight's 3-0 Cubs victory in Cincinnati, Anthony Rizzo became only he second Cub ever to smack 30 round-trippers in a season. Before him Billy Williams did it 5 times (source, Pat Hughes WGN Radio).

This past weekend, the Mariners swept the Red Sox at Fenway Park. It marked the first time in team history that the M's swept the Bosox in Boston.

    Dave:

Am I reading this wrong? Wilson, Banks, Kingman, Sosa, etc. all had over 30 HR's in a season.

    Bill:

My statement omitted an important part of the factoid...this was applicable to left-handed hitting Cubs. Sorry.

It's been pretty well publicized by now that Devin Hester of the Falcons returned his NFL record 20th kick/punt for a TD in Thursday night's Falcons rout over Tampa Bay. Hester, whose first 19 TD returns were in a Bears uniform, has at least one other kickoff return milestone. Hester is the only player in Super Bowl history to return the opening kickoff for a TD, that in SB 41.
