Is this Mariano Rivera Ball really worth this???

Ok I know the motto of whatever someone is willing to pay is what its worth. But even that has a line to draw!!

And yes I get that the money is going to charity but even still I think its a bit much!!

I can see $500, maybe $1,000 because of charity but this much $$$???

none of this stuff is worth that kind of money. couple hundred sure. there is way too much stuff out there for the people to be paying stupid amounts for this stuff.
would i like some stuff, sure. but not that bad for those prices. all this stuff is overrated anymore, especially the mother's day items.

Definitely not worth it. 1st nowhere does it say that this is a ball that Mo pitched in that game. 2nd 600 saves is not a record breaking save. 3rd who knows how many of these will hit the market in the future. For comparisons sake this weekend, a Nolan Ryan 4,000 strikeout game ball went for only $600 at REA and a Seaver no hitter ball went for $3,000. So the long term value of game used milestone balls isn't really there for stuff 1975-present.

Glad you posted on this as we had this discussion in pricing Mariano save balls. Interesting discussion. Mariano's 1st saves of 2012 were in Baltimore on 4/10 and 4/11. In our store, we have game used balls from both of those games at $150 to $199.

I would think game #600 are worth more than #599 but #602 actually set the saves record and each one after sets a new record.

What are balls from saves #604 and #605 worth since they actually set records? Of course after that, Mariano had additional saves so #608 is now the record.

At that price I thought it was one of those game-used "save" balls
that Steiner sells of Rivera that was actually used to record the
save/final out. If that were the case $5K is not all that absurd but
when you check the hologram# this is what you get. So there's a
possibility that the ball wasn't even used!

Hologram number FJ494973 was located in the MLB Authentication Database under GAME-READY BALL.

By the way I have several balls that were used in this game.

My thought is would you rather have the ball at $5,000+ or the 2001 World Series worn jersey (at just under $3,000 now) on SCP?

Yes, I know the one is a positive and the other a negative in event history for Rivera, but just found it interesting in regard to pricing.

The SCP auction link is here:
