Do you mind owning a signed personalized gu piece from a milestone game if its personalized to someone else?

For example, if you had the chance to buy a game used item
whether it be bat, batting glove etc and it was from
a significant milestone or feat, but it was inscribed with a
notation indicating the achievement and then personalized with
a persons name that is obviously not you?

just wanted to get some opinions?

The history of the item trumps the autograph in my opinion. Although, it depends somewhat on who it was personalized to. I've seen some really cool items that were personalized from one ball player to another ball player. I think that adds to it a bit personally. IE if a bat went from Kirby Puckett to Cal Ripken, that add credibility to the item over a non-personalized signature. Granted thats probably not the situation you are referring to, but just a thought...

i was wondering as i got into a discussion with
a fellow collector. He was trying to convince me
to part with one of batting gloves worn by mcgwire
that was used to hit his next last career HR (582).
His argument was that since it was personalized to
someone else it wouldnt be worth nearly what it
would be if it wasn't personalized.

i argued that mcgwires habits during the final year(s)
were to notate the feat in his case the HR and then give it
away as a gift. he had no memorabilia agent so
notating the HR and then inscribing it as a gift was
the really the only way to actually know which
HR it was used for. Its rare to find a notated item of his
during his cardinal years without a personalization.
He only gave the HR notated items to teamates, coaches,
friends. So getting a notated piece was extremely hard
and to find one used with HR notation without personalization
    was even harder.

i also told him to finding a item fron his
next to last and final career HR was pretty much
    impossible.

You just made a case for the item to have more provenance and hence being more valuable.

Personally I don't mind owning a piece of game used item if it's signed to someone else.

This Gary Carter final year Expos bat is one of my favorite pieces.
