I could be wrong, but I believe paying for a copy of a NHL, MLB, NBA, NFL, etc. game is illegal. Trading for one is legal. That is my understanding.

I would suggest trying to contact who owns the rights to the NHL footage library, which is likely the NHL and see if you can get a copy.
I did this with NFL films when I bought the Tampa Bay Bucs team highlight video from 1990. They charged me $55 for the 26 minute video, but I wanted to get the full set of every Bucs team highlight video and was missing that one season. It was worth the $55 for me, and I actually ended up LEGALLY selling the master video of this with the NFL films receipt for $30 on ebay and made a copy for myself.
Also, from from the world of pro wrestling..... At WWE I have been trying to get the video of the full match of The Mountie vs. Bret Hart from 1992 when The Mountie won the IC title, I have emailed the WWE library once a year for 10 years offering $100 for that one match that they recorded at a house show in Springfield, MA. WWE shows clips on their royal Rumble 1992 video, but I've wanted to get the whole match for years and haven't had luck.
