    Congratulations! But for those of you with or expecting daughters, don't assume they'll not become interested in collecting as well. Just in my lifetime, the percentage of genuine sports fans who are female has increased a lot, so more female collectors may be coming.

    My wife of 42 years never cared for sports until our "empty nest" period, when she starting going with me to more events for "company." Now she's a full-fledged fan of both baseball and basketball, keeping up with stats and results as much as I do. When a foul landed at her feet in the minors, she got her own ball cube for it. She points out that as a child she was discouraged from participating in sports, as were most girls in the 1950's and 60's; so she got a late start on learning to enjoy them.
