    Question on Sheffield bat

I won this bat on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...2132&rd=1&rd=1 . There are no markings on the knob and the barrell is cupped. The cupped end has a number 7, and the knob end is blacked out with a white number 28. I'm guessing there was another number underneath the black out. any ideas on a year? I'm thinking 1991. And is this a legit gamer?

    Thank You

    Re: Question on Sheffield bat

Hi MilwBrewers - the bat in question appears to be a legitimate 1991 - 1997 Louisville Slugger label professional model bat ordered by "Sheffield". Since Milwauke Brewers is on the barrel and there were no other Sheffield's in the majors at the time, this bat was most likely ordered by Gary Sheffield his last year in Milwauke, which was 1991. Unfortunately, we do not have Sheff's shipping records. As you probably know, he wore #11 with the Brewers in 1991. If the bat has a blackened knob, then it may have started in Sheff's hands and made it into another player's hands ( #7 or #28 ). If it just has #7 and #28 and the knob is not blackened, once again, it could have started in Sheff's hands and made it into #7's and #28's hands......will never know - but for $38, that's not bad for a guy who has 455 HR right now......no matter who used the bat.........

Let me know if I can be of further assistance. Jim
