Heisman Trophy Winner, Billy Sims Oklahoma Sooners “Game-Issued” Jersey

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-1980...item3f1e656ab9

Great looking jersey, but it was not issued to Billy Sims. The University of Oklahoma did not include the name “Sooners” on the jerseys until 1981, 2 years after Sims career at Oklahoma. In fact, “Oklahoma” was introduced to the shirts in 1980 and then they switched to “Sooners” the following year.

Even more telling is the brand, Sand Knit. Sand Knit was not worn in regular season games by Oklahoma until 1986. They did, however, wear Sand Knit jerseys in the 1986 Orange Bowl against Penn State following the ’85 season. During the Sims era they wore Speedline jerseys.

Something to consider, in 1986 Spencer Tillman (current CBS Sports Reporter) wore #20. This jersey was most likely issued to him before someone got sneaky and put a Sims nameplate on it.

Included are pictures of an actual Spencer Tillman jersey from the ’86 season. They are identical to the “Billy Sims Game-Issued Jersey” on eBay.

The design of the Sand-Knit tag in the Sims jersey photo would match your information on when Sand-Knit began supplying the Sooners.
