Fading/Dying on NFL Jersey?

So about a year ago, I picked up a NY Giants Barry Cofield blue gamer from the 2010 season. Its that weird stretchy jersey the Giants had been using since 2009. In the past year it has gone from royal blue, to what looks like a reddish purple? It has been stored properly, and away from the sun.

There are some reddish discolorations throughout the jersey and slowly morphing itself into a Vikings jersey.

Has anyone experienced anything similar with Giants jersey's or these stretchy ones?

Its pretty disappointing as it is one of my favorites and it now looks funny.

Sorry to hear about the jersey discoloration. Haven't heard of this happening before. Can you post before and after pics? Just curious, was the jersey acquired unwashed?

Jersey was actually washed, and probably a handful of times. I'll try and pop some pics on here tomorrow. Thanks

Well fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, my jersey may not be the only one experiencing this type of fading. See the auction below. The jersey looks similar to whats happening to mine.

Any insight?

I think its the material not something that you can prevent.
