Unhappy Re: Recent Deaths in the Sports World

    Two passings from the gridiron:

Jevon Belcher, a linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs, died in a murder/suicide in which he killed his girlfriend, then drove to the Chiefs practice facility and shot himself. He was 25

Dean Brown, an OT on the 1988 NCAA Champion Notre Dame team, died of an upper respiratory illness. He was 44.

Just saw that Rick Majerus (Utah/Saint Louis) passed away from heart ailment. I'll reserve comment about him overall, but he was a great basketball mind and college basketball will miss him.
    Cheers,
    Jack

Rogelio Alvarez, a Cuban who left the island and came to America, died November 30 at age 74.

Alvarez had short stints as a backup 1B with the Reds in 1960 and 1962. He was dealt to the Senators in the winter and, while appearing on a 1963 Topps Rookie Stars card as a Senator, never made the big club.

Jerry Brown, a LB and a member of the Dallas Cowboys practice squad and an alum of Illinois, died in an automobile accident Saturday. Brown had played 1 game with the Colts this season before being released in October.

The driver of the vehicle, teammate Josh Brent, survived but has been charged with intoxicated manslaughter.
