    Woody Durham, longtime announcer for the North Carolina Tar Heels basketball games, died at age 76.

    Durham was North Carolina Sportscaster of the Year 13 times, and was honored with the Curt Gowdy Award by the Naismith BSKB HOF in 2015.

    Chris Gedney, an NFL TE for 7 years, died on 3/9 at age 47. Cause of death was not revealed.

    Gedney played in the NFL from 1993-99, first for 4 seasons with the Bears, and then 3 years with the Cardinals.

    Curt Raydon, a RHP for the 1958 Pirates, died on 3/3/18 at age 84.

    Steve Stroughter, who played in 26 games for the 1982 Mariners, died 3/6/18 at age 65.

    Unhappy Ed Charles

    Charles, a 3B on the Miracle Mets of 1969, died on 3/15/18 at age 84.

    Charles, who didn't make it to The Show until age 28, played from 1962-69 with the Kansas City A's and the Mets. he went from KC to NY in an early season 1967 deal.

    Unhappy Tom Benson

    The owner of both of New Orleans major sports league teams, Benson died on 3/15. He had been hospitalized almost a month after catching the flu.

    Unhappy Larry Kwong

    The first non-white player in the NHL, Kwong, a Chinese-Canadian, died earlier this week at age 94. He played in one game for the 1947-48 New York Rangers.

    Unhappy Wayne Huizenga

    A billionaire and influential figure in Miami sports, Huizenga died this week at age 80.

    For a time in the 1990s, Huizenga owned the Miami Dolphins, the Florida Panthers and the Florida Marlins simultaneously.

    Unhappy Jerry Schoonmaker and Dick LeMay

    Schoonmaker, who was a reserve OF for the Senators in 1955 and 1957, died 3/18 at age 84.

    The following day, Lemay, a LHP who was part of the NL pennant-winning Giants 1962, passed away at age 79. He came up to the Giants in 1961, and briefly took the mound for the Cubs in 1963.
