    2 from the NBA:

    Tyler Honeycutt, who played 2 seasons in the NBA, died after a shootout with police early this morning. He was 27.

    Honeycutt was a 2011 draft pick for the Kings, and was a 2011 1st Team All-Pac 10 selection.

    Cliff Rozier, a 1st round draft pick for Golden State in 1994, died on 7/6, 2 days after having a heart attack, at age 45.

    Rozier played 2 full seasons for the Warriors and 1 game in 1996-97 before being traded to Orlando. He never appeared in a game with the Magic, but did play later that season in 41 games with Toronto, before ending his career in 1997-98 with Minnesota.

    Sammy Esposito , longtime utility IF for the White Sox,, died on 7/9 at age 68.

    Esposito was a member of the 1959 Sox pennant winners, and also played briefly in '63 with Kansas City.

    Two recent deaths of Detroit Lions notables:


    Darryl Rodgers, head coach of the Lions and longtime college coach, died on July 11 at age 83.


    He coached the Lions from 1985-87 and for 11 games in 1988.



    Bruce Maher, a safety for the Lions for 7 seasons, died on July 6 at age 80.

    After his time with the Lions, he played 2 more seasons with the Giants.

    Ray Emery, an NHL goalie from 2003-15, died on 7/15 of undetermined causes. He was 35.

    Emery played for Ottawa, Anaheim, Chicago and Philadelphia over the course of his career. He was a member of the 2012-13 Stanley Cup Champion Blackhawks.

    Len Chappell, former NBA All-star and a major name at Wake Forest, died July 12 at age 77.

    Chappell played for 9 NBA teams and 1 ABA club in hi career. Included are being on the inaugural season Bulls and Bucks teams, a rookie season with the Syracuse Nationals, the Knicks and the ABA Dallas Chaparrals.

    Mike Kudla, a defensive star for the Ohio State Buckeyes FB team, died on 7/15 at age 34.

    Kudla played for OSU from 2002-05, and was the team's defensive MVP in his senior season.

    Gabe Rivera, a star at Texas Tech, died on 7/16 at age 57.

    Rivera played in 6 games for the 1983 Steelers before being left paralyzed due to an auto crash.
