    Framing Game Jersey?

I have this Biggio gamer and I was planning on getting it signed an framed. It is my only game jersey so I am not sure if it is better to get it framed or not.

Also, I have these tickets from his 3000 hit game (my tickets when I went to the game not just random ones I bought after the fact) and I was planning on getting them signed and framing them with the jersey.

    Opinions?

Everyone is going to say its up to you...people have different preferences. I personally do not frame game jerseys because then you lose half of the jersey to enjoy. I would rather have them on a mannequin for example.

Framing the jersey is entirely up to you. The one nice thing that I have seen on some collectors walls who choose to frame up a jersey is a shadow box frame piece. The piece has a hinged glass door and a built in hanger so that collectors can change the jersey for another one or change the front to the back.

The ones I have seen show really nice. It's another option for you. A lot of guys will stay away from truly framing a jersey too because of the potential damage that can be done to the jersey in the framing process.

I'm sure others will chime in here soon enough, but the shadow box hanger frame always has seemed like a good option. I have not purchased one nor used one to this day...but I have seen them and they seems real nice and practical.

Where would I find a mannequin?

Wade, that is not a bad idea. Do you know where I can view some pics of these?

Nevermind, I found some. It is a cool idea but the box seems bigger than a regular frame and would be hard to hang up on a wall it seems.

    Re: Framing Game Jersey?

I've gone back and forth on this myself, and I ended up going with shadow boxes.

The jersey on the mannequin gives the best view of all sides, but it takes up a lot of space, if I were going this route I would want to have the whole uniform and helmet and do something full size. The pancake in the standard picture frame was out - just don't feel it looks natural, and I wonder about the long-term affects on the jersey...

I build my own shadow boxes - I get the frames from www.framesbymail.com, cut to the size I need for the jersey. I then get the matting, backer, plexiglass, and inner cloth locally. I build the hanger out of aluminum stock and Home Depot knobs. It's a lot of work, but I'm picky and it's exactly what I wanted. Frames By Mail could probably do everything for me, but at a premium.

Pics of a couple of my game-cut jerseys in the shadowboxes.

Very nice frames. Are those metal? If so, what do you use to cut them?

I have purchased my shadow boxes at Michael's. They cost around $100 for a 32" x 40" frame and aren't too deep. I'm in the process of cutting mats for them to spruce them up a little.

Thanks! I probably should have mentioned that - yes they are metal, the color is called 'german silver' if anyone is interested.

Frames By Mail does all the cutting and ships them with the assembly hardware - I just take care of the easy stuff.

I frame them.... I like adding cards or special game tickets, or photos with me and the player in them. i use the little plastic pieces that companies put tags on shirts to hold to the matting. this does not damage the jersey at all.
