Definitely a fan favorite, as well as, an Icon of the early Padres era . . . Sad story on how it ended.

True "White Whale" definition in finding his items.

    RIP Enzo Octavio Hernández

    Re: Rip Enzo Hernandez.-

Former Venezuelan Enzo Hernandez, who wore number 20 when playing in the majors, committed suicide at 1:45 am on Sunday. A self inflicted shot to the head at his home in El Tigre, Anzoategui as quoted by the newspaper Sunday leader in Sports.

The information was announced by the journalist Juan Guatache (@ jrguatache). Enzo Hernandez "in recent months had been treated for depression and his health worsen last December."

Hernandez was born on February 12, 1949 in Valley Guanape (Anzoategui) and died at 62 years of age. He played for eight seasons (1971-1978) in the majors, seven with the San Diego Padres and the Dodgers. A career batting average of .224 with 522 hits, 66 doubles, 13 triples, 2 home runs, 241 runs scored, and 129 stolen bases in 714 games. His fielding percentage was .964.

for my own satisfaction I wanted to see what pitchers he hit his two career ML Home Runs off of during his eight year career and if anyone cares, one was off Jim Willoughby of the Giants and the other was Carl Morton of the Braves.

RIP Enzo (former Oriole minor leaguer)

    Re: Rip Enzo Hernandez.-

Very sad news. He was the 4th great Venezuelan shortstop in the majors, after Carrasquel, Aparicio and Concepcion.

I have one of his jerseys from his final year with the Padres.
