Cupped end bat??

Does anyone know what was the first year for the cupped end bat introduced in major league baseball?I saw an advertisement for cupped bats in 1942 but I think it was for little league baseball. Any info would very much be appreciated.

I remember Ivan Murrell of the Padres using a cupped bat (I believe it was a Japanese model) around 1970. The broadcasters seemed fascinated by it, so it appeared to be something new and different in the major leagues at the time. (My baseball recall doesn't go back too much further than 1970!)

The PSA article states that Hank Sauer invented the cupped bat with Hanna Batrite in 1940.. Please see EBay item 380454771996 for a SideWritten Hank Sauer cupped Hanna Batrite.. Dated 1940.. Maybe the 1st professional cupped bat?
