Re: Lelands Brady & Manning Jerseys

Lelands, I forwarded this email question to you on the Brady & Manning jerseys you currently have in your auction. Could you please respond...thanks...

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

    Gentleman,

Hello….the above mentioned items caught my attention, since I believe there are some inconsistencies in each jersey…

Brady – the sleeve length appears to be short for a Brady gamer. If you reference photos from 2005, you will see that there is usually more material after the Patriot sleeve emblem, than there appears to be on this jersey. Another issue appears to be the nameplate, as it is cropped too short and should be longer.

Manning – the sleeve length appears to be inappropriate for a Manning gamer. There have been many Manning jerseys floating around with not enough sleeve length and this appears to be one of them. Again, if you reference photos of Manning you will see the difference.

Can you elaborate as to where the pieces originated from and please address the above mentioned issues? Thank you…

    Update on the two jerseys:

Beantown was correct about the sleeves on the Manning jersey and it is being removed from the auction. Thanks Beantown.

We are still in the process of reviewing the Brady jersey.

    Mike,

Hello...I have been working with Keith from your staff, first on the Manning and now on the Brady. Very professional...that in my mind makes Leland's an A+ Auction house as they are willing to listen to what people have to say instead of simply ignoring it...great job

    AL Oliver Jersey

    Mike,
Good evening. I was looking at your current Pirates items and you have some nice pieces. I do have a question about the Al Oliver jersey though. I bought that jersey a few years ago and I was told that it was a salesman's sample due to the reversed armband colors. I returned the jersey since I could not find any evidence to contradict that claim. Can you tell me what leads you to believe that this is indeed a game worn jersey?

PS. I collect Pirates World Series Player bats if you ever come across any.

    Re: Lelands Current Auction Items

    Hi Marty,

We had those concerns also when we noticed the the reversed colors. The reasons that we have concluded that it is a game worn jersey are: 1) Tagging and manufacturer are consistant with those that were issued to the Pirates players in 1970-71. It has the Rawlings size 42 tag along with the "Do Not Dry Clean" tag in the tail. Furthermore, there is a third tag (totally washed out and very frayed) in the tail sewn next to the other tagging. This tag would have specified an custom alteration like extra or shortened length. This extra tagging would be an oddity on a sample jersey. 2) The use is consitant with other game used jerseys from the era that we have seen. 3) We have located a photo (that we will post on our web site with the Oliver jersey) of Roberto Clemente wearing the same style jersey with the identical color sequence of gold, white, and black on the sleeves.

Based on this information, we believe that one set of Pirates jerseys were made with the sleeve colors "reversed."

Please feel free to call me at 516-409-9700 if you have any further questions.

    Mike,
Thanks for the info and quick reply. I would love to see the Clemente photo. I will see if I can find any other supporting evidence to help you.

    Re: Lelands Current Auction Items

The photo of Clemente wearing the Pirates jersey with the gold-white-black sleeves is now posted along with the other photos of Lot 681 at
    Lelands.com.

A very interseting note: Clemente is wearing number 19 in this photo. Do not ask me why! I do know that this photo was shot while Clemente was doing a glove promotion in Puerto Rico.
