Gary Carter Dodgers Uniform Number

I happen to come across a couple images of Gary Carter during his stint with the Dodgers. It looks like he wore both #12 and #8. I assume he wore #12 during spring training? Who had #8 at the time? I image they proabaly just did a number change when it became available or does an actual (Dodgers) game used #12 exist for Gary Carter in a private collection.

This is one of Carter's spring training uniforms. He wore 12 in ST and 8 during the regular season in 1991.
