Steiner exclusive: $1,000 for Frank Crosetti

Since when has Crosetti been worth as much as Mantle, DiMaggio and Williams?

Is it me or are their auctions' opening bid amounts a lot closer to buy-it-now prices than before?

Wow! That's a lot for Crosetti......

Frank was one of the best signers around when he was alive. I sent him a wire photo one time - got it back in a week - personalized and with an inscription added.......have it hanging on the wall and is one of my favorites.......

$950 opening bid is a little steep for ol' Frank.........

Just wanted to insert a little entry on Frank Crosetti...He was probably one of the greatest players in history, and should be in the Hall..He had either been a player or coach in about 23 World Series, and was the type of guy who would sign for you anytime, for nothing..
I had the opportunity to meet him and his wife, at thier residence, when he was 92 years old. At that time he was still driving, and had no loss of memory..They were living in a small home, and it didn't appear to have a large income..He told me how card companies would send him hundreds of cards to sign, and would give him a few hundred dollars..He escorted me through his house, and showed me the signed, and personalized photos he had on his walls of Ruth, Gehrig, Williams, Maris, Berra, Dimaggio, Pee Wee Reese, and numerous other greats, and had a story for each..He allowed me to take photo's of each, and then posed with myself, my cousin, and my God son. He also on an later occasions, signed the photo's for us..Approx. 3 months after meeting him, he apparently fell, and passed away due to complications from a broken hip..He was an exceptional person, and ball player...

"He was probably one of the greatest players in history, and should be in the Hall".....Sounds like a great guy but let's not get carried away with a .245 lifetime BA and fewer than 100 Home Runs over an approx. 15 year career....
