Numbering a knob player characteristic and blackened knobs

I have been canvassing bat to see what is available and have noticed some bats with the numbering that are done in white, but prior to that, that the knob surface has blackened out. I provide a sample below.

I just dont want to dismiss this entirely as I have not seem enough bats to know whether this is done by any player. The method of numbering looks aesthetically pleasing and perhaps makes a bat stand out in the bat rack. I don't really know.
The detractor in me says that the bat was used by another player and the knob was blackened out to hide the original number of his teammates.

My question is whether there are any players with this method of numbering that can be considered a player characteristic or should all such bats be dismissed.

I'm curious to know this as well, as I have always assumed it has been added after the fact by someone trying to hide a number underneath as mentioned.

Plenty of players have done this on occasion. Puckett, Gwynn, Murray come to mind but I don't believe anyone did it consistently. You should always be weary and take a look at the other characteristics.
