Gonzalez: too much slant?
Howard Wolf pointed out to me this major auction item...a Luis Gonzalez 2002 purple Arizona jersey with the extreme slant on the ARIZONA shown. Does anyone out there have photo or collection evidence to support this oddity?

Re: Gonzalez: too much slant?
here is a link of dbacks uniform history. The first purple jersey, a #32, has a slant that looks close to the Gonzalez.

Re: Gonzalez: too much slant?
There's something very much not right about that jersey.
Take a look at my (very available) 2000 Bautista jersey. Note how this size 46 jersey has a much less pronounced slant to the "Arizona" and that the numbers on both the front and back are much smaller than the "Gonzalez" jersey. The photo of the "Gonzalez" jersey looks more like something the team would run up for a player's kid than anything you'd see on the field.Mark

Re: Gonzalez: too much slant?
The link that DNRAPP listed is interesting. It shows that the purple jerseys worn in 2002 at home and were used very rarely and mostly when Rick Helling was doing the pitching according to the author of this website. The number #32 jersey pictured looks like the Gonzalez style.

Dave, a couple of ball cards from Topps 2002.

Re: Gonzalez: too much slant?
Another 2 Topps 2002 cards for comparison. Same identical swing but with different head/batting helmet locations. Jerseys do not seem to be the same. I tried to look at the background to see if the crowd was the same for the game, very difficult to tell, could be from a different angle too. Notice the slant differences. The bigger photo has lesser angle than the other card I posted, which shows the slant. Notice the location of the #2 under his arms and the location of the A in Arizona. Quite a bit of difference there.

The number 2 looks different on the jerseys as well.
