i just wanted to discuss an issue that's relevant to this thread about the alex rios jersey in historic's auction. here is the jersey i'm referring to:

in 2005, all of the jerseys sold by the jays came with mlb authentication. 2005 was the first year that mlb took over this authentication. previously, the jays had handled it and issued COAs when selling their game-issued and game-worn jerseys. the historic jersey comes with no mlb authentication/hologram. i suppose it's possible that rios or a team staffer removed the jersey from the clubhouse and provided it to whoever. however, that's the same scenario as non-steiner yankee shirts and non-meigray rangers shirts. possible but unlikely.
