George Foster non-hickory finish 80's bats

    Hi Gents,

Did George Foster ever order natural colored P72 bats between 84-86 time frame? George has always been known by his dark colored hickory bats.

    Thanks

    Hi David--

In the 83-85 and 86-89 labeling periods, no bats were shipped to George Foster for his professional use thet did not have the well-known Hickory Finish. In 1983 two orders of Flame Treated Finish P72 bats were sent to Baseball Miscellaneous with specified weights, however the length of 34 inches was short of Foster's well-documented 35 inch P72 orders. In 1988, additional orders of Natural Finish P72 bats were sent to Baseball Miscellaneous.

Foster's exclusive use of a Hickory Finish began in the 1974 season, although he ordered Hickory Finish as well as other finishes prior to that season. In 1982 an order of Foster's was actually recorded in his shipping records as Foster finish, the only time that notation is documented. At some point, H & B actually marketed a Foster Finish on retail bats ( http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-LOUISVILLE-...QQcmdZViewItem )

The typical Foster professional model P72 during the period you mention is 35 inches / 33 ounces / Hickory Finish.

    Good luck in future ciollecting.
