Re: Jeter retiring at end of season.
Never cared for the Yankees but always liked watching Jeter play the game. I found it funny a couple of years ago people were actually saying Derek had a shot at breaking Pete's hit record... Pete said it could never happen and of course got flack for it. Playing shortstop all those years is pretty impressive. Hope he goes out with a bang! Never did see him play in person (Reds country). Maybe I will make the trip to NY this year when they play.

This makes me all the more glad AROD is sitting this year - allows for one of the game's best to go out in style and with the focus being on him and his accomplishments instead of having a nagging cloud of media coverage driven in the wrong direction.

He probably won't even play in the final series unless they're important games.

Re: Jeter retiring at end of season.
Unless the last three games are meaningful - ala playoff push for both teams, most likely he wont play.
Remember what Mariano did? He suit up but did not play. Why? He wanted to be remembered the last moment he played was at Yankee stadium.
Jeter might take a different route but then again, why chance it if the Yankees are out of it.
But then again, with the offensive lineup they got and hopefully the bullpen will hold the bleeding to the minimum, the Yankees might get to the playoff after all. Then and only then, you might look back and say ... DAMN IT, I SHOULD HAVE WAIT IT OUT.
