First Rivera, now Jeter.....sad days ahead of us Yankee fans.
Someone is going to have some big shoes to fill at SS.

Its weird, I'm 30 and Jeter has been playing for all my adult life and although I'm not a Yankees fan it will be weird to turn on a Yankees game and he isn't at least part of the team.

Not a Yankee fan, or a fan of the way they conduct business....I have to say Jeter is a class act....great ballplayer who could have played for any team in the past, which cant be said of most modern athletes...he will never be replaced, but im sure Cashman will buy the best he can afford...Jeter will be missed, as we grow older we see many who have retired, it is just a few we always compare as the best ever....

Die hard Rays fan, but will really miss #2. Derek was a good as it gets, not a lot that I can add as a fan that hasn't been said about him, but I think the sport was better for having him a part of it.

Jeter needs these number of hits this season to go closer to the all time hit list.

4 hits = pass Molitor for 9th all time
104 hits = pass Yaz for 8th all time
105 hits = pass Honus Wagner for 7th All time
120 hits = pass Cap Anson for 6th all time
199 hits = pass Tris Speaker for 5th all time

    Other Possible Jeter 2014 milestones

He needs 124 runs to reach 2,000 (he hasn't scored that many since 2002 though)

32 plate appearances to reach 12,000 , he does have a chance at passing Craig Biggio for 10th all time in plate appearances

16 stolen bases to be in the top 100 for stolen bases all time (2 to get to 350)

He is actually in 9th place now, as he passed Cap Anson some time back on the hit list. MLB uses Elias Sports Bureau for the official figures, which has Anson at 3,081 hits. So he can look to hopefully jump up to 6th Place All Time over the course of this last season.

That right, because I think Elias subtract walks which were originally counted as hits.

Side note, I wonder how out of hand Jeter's game used items will go this year.
