Griffey White Sox helmet on ebay

Just wanted to get this out there in case anyone was interested in it. Unfortunantly its to good to be true. He used the newer style in his first game in a sox uniform. Is it still possible it was issued to him? Could be an old Erstad or Gload.

Another one of those charity event pickups.
There seem to be plenty of those on Ebay.

Even Darin Erstad who wore #17 in 2007 used the new style helmet.

One of the pics she had in the listing showed him using a old style helmet but that was during a home series and no idea the time frame the pic came from. I would love to have it but finding a match will be hard. there are some white markings on the side of the helmet but my gut tells me this is prob an old erstad helmet.

It likely wasn't/isn't good. The helmet was not only not a Cool-Flo style helmet, but it also had the old Diamond Collection stickers on the inside. Even if Griffey used an old style helmet on 7 Aug, it would still have had the modern stickers, more likely than not. In addition to that, the LOA was from the KC Boys & Girls Club, stating the helmet was taken from Griffey after his debut to auction. I think the letter was real, but there was some bait & switch going on. A lot of the seller's items are questionable. The Favre/Rodgers ball looks awful, as does the Hornung. The Favre is missing the | in the B that he usually has (even if it's really small sometimes), and the Rodgers has the R written in a style that doesn't look like his normal signature, even if we look at just his first year with the Packers. The Hornung has the P written as a "B" when Hornung usually has a P that looks more like a really big "e" or a fancy capital "C."

I would stay away from the seller's items, because even the back story seems to conflict with the consistent use of "us" and "our" in the descriptions.

Beyond that, I'm pretty sure the auction was removed by eBay, since it doesn't even show up in the completed auctions section.

Personally, I think the helmet, if worn by anyone, was worn by Mike Caruso. He's the only left-handed batter to play during the period where that "Diamond Collection" sticker and the "ABC" sticker were used on helmets.

Oh, the auction shows up now as the $225 BIN. So, I guess it did sell to someone. How odd... I don't like the 7 Aug photo. He is possibly still wearing a cool-flo helmet, since he is wearing one the next game and the game before. It would make no sense to use the old style helmet for just one game.

Now, it shows up as missing, yet again:
