Baseball loyalties graphed on National/Regional basis

I thought this was interesting, especially the regional maps that show the dividing lines down to great detail. The NY Times pulled this information based on Facebook likes.

Re: Baseball loyalties graphed on National/Regional basis

A few years ago I saw a poll that listed the Yankees, Braves, and Red Sox as the teams with the biggest national followings. All were around 11-12% of baseball fans.

From 1966-1992 the Braves were the only truly southeastern team in MLB history ( though minor leagues, and more recently college baseball, were strong.) That explains their broad following, but it also explains why many Braves's fans live too far away to make many games.
