2012 Game Worn Football Helmet help

I was looking at a game worn helmet that has a 2012 recertification sticker. I believe that means helmet was used for 2012 but wanted to be sure before I make an offer. Thanks for any help!!

A 2012 recertification sticker means it was prepared for use for the 2012 season. This would mean the helmet was worn in 2011, and then recertified for use in 2012 after the 2011 season was over. Even after the 2012 recertification sticker was applied, it could have been worn or it may not have been worn. It all depends if a player used it again.

Thanks! So if helmet shows use was probably used in 2012 I am assuming recertification would have no player stickers, battle scars, etc?

If it was reused in the 2012 season that should of been the last year it was used, or you would see a 2013 recertification sticker if the helmet was used for more than 2 years. If it was used last in 2012 I would think there definitely would be hit marks, hit marks on top of decals etc. College helmets can be tricky if the university removed some decals before letting them go, esp. if a player didn't keep his. Players keeping them usually get them as they last wore them. I am more familiar with what was done for helmets in the 1990's, esp. Ohio State.

Forgot to mention...if it is a college helmet and you don't see a lot of the original decals. Make sure it wasn't a practice helmet. A lot of those are sent out with newer decals and told they are game used.

Pelman9- I have New York Jets center Nick Mangolds helmet that has been recertified for the 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 seasons. I have it photomatched to the last game it was worn in during the 2012 season.
