    Bill goodman Red Sox bat

Looking for help. I'm trying to date a bill goodman 01s Louisville slugger bat. I read years ago on here....that bills records only showed 1order for the 01s 35" bat. Any help would be appreciated.

A review of Billy Goodman's personal H & B order records between 4/14/44 and 6/26/63 shows the following:

Between the above dates, Goodman ordered approximately 800 bats (estimate) from H & B.

H & B model O1 with a small knob (O1S) in a length of 34 inches with weights of 32 oz. or 33 oz. was by far his favored model, accounting for approximately 90 to 95 % of his orders.

During the 1950 - 1960 label period Billy also had a few orders for the O1S model in 34.5" length.

During the course of his career, Billy rarely (very very rarely) ordered any bats in a length of 35". Those identified were as follows (excluding model O1S): G69 (1947), S44 (1959), M110 (1959), and U1 (1960.)

Regarding a possible documented order of a 35" O1S as noted in your question, an order for 2 bats is documented on 3/31/1947. This order also appears to be his first order as a contract player. An additional order for 35" model O1S bats is dated 4/16/1947 (6 bats.) Additionally, an order for 35" model O1S bats dated 1/8/1952 was cancelled and presumably was either not sent to Goodman or was returned to the factory. Finally, there is an order dated 5/25/1959 that is possibly a 35" O1S order, however the records are a bit unclear on this point.

Be sure to get an accurate measurement to determine if the bat is 34.5" or 35". Do this by putting the knob end against a flat surface such as a wall, and measuring to the end of the barrel. Also check the wording beneath the center label... "Trade Mark Reg" would date the bat to one of the 1947 orders. If the wording is "Reg. U.S. Pat. Off" then the bat would be dated to 1950-1960 period, and would possibly be a pro stock or team index bat.

If it's a real gamer, from the 40s, let me know if you want to sell it.

Thanks mike I measured the bat and it's exactly 34 7/8" long by eyeballing it. It has the reg us pat off underneath label and is hammered with a barely readable red #10 on the knob. I live in concord nc. I got it from a man who's dad was a childhood friend of his that played baseball with him here in high school and was given to him in the early 60's according to him. He wasn't positive on the year. Thanks for the help.
