    Keith Hernandez S226?

Did Keith Hernandez order S226 bats during his time with the Mets?

I've never seen any game used model other than the C271 during his Met years.

According to Keith in his book If At First he used R43, K75, M110, & M159 model bats in his earlier years and he borrowed a C271 from Willie McGee during the 82 World series and used the C271 ever since that time.

    Re: Keith Hernandez S226?

Interesting thing about this S226 is that it's 35" 30 ounces. Keith's C271s were 34 1/2 inches and 32 to 32 1/2 ounces (he swung a lighter bat during certain times of the season). He was so particular about his bats that he was able to detect a shipment of bats that were not properly weighted between 32 to 32 1/2 ounces.

    From his book:

"Charlie reports that about half of the remaining stock weigh a mere 30 ounces. Hell, nobody swings 30. Mookie swings our lightest bat , 31 ounces. Carter, Foster and Strawberry usually swing 33."

"I swing 32 1/2. Charlie will immediately order another shipment from Louisville and tell them to get it right.

"...rule of thumb for a bat is that the length in inches shouldn't exceed the weight in ounces by more than two. Therefore my 34 1/2 inch bat should weigh at least 32 1/2 ounces."

So even if this 35" bat was used by Keith (which seems highly unlikely given what we know) the weight should have been 33 ounces instead of 30 ounces for him even to consider it.

Thanks for the response. I have only see C271's from his Mets days as well.

    Heres another S226 on EBay

Not an 1986 bat either. It's an 80-83 (large oval) era bat.

    Re: Keith Hernandez S226?

H & B records do not document any orders of Model S226 by Keith Hernandez at any time during his career (1982 - 1991), including his time with the Mets (6/15/1983 - 11/13/1989.) Models that are documented during his time with the Mets are: C271, C271C, M110, M159, W279C, F149, and H262C. Model C271C was his most-ordered bat during that period, generally with specifications of 34.5 inches and 32 ounces.
