    90s Detroit Lions Help

Did the Lions wear Wilson jerseys in the early 90s? If so, does someone have a picture of what the tagging looks like? I have someone offering up a jersey that might at least be team issued, but I need more info. Thanks!

Yes, the Lions wore Wilson from 1991 through about midway in the 1994 season (switched to Apex midway in 1994). The lettering should be screened-on and the name should be sewn onto the nameplate. This information is based on past research and a bulk buy of about 800 jerseys that I made directly from the Lions back in 1999.

Attached are a few photos of the tagging. Under the size "flag tag" is often another "flag tag" that contains two letters (see last photo). The letters are a code for the month and date that the jersey was manufactured. Here is a link to a GUU thread that discusses the two-letter code http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_f...ead.php?t=1592

    Hope this information is helpful.

Here are some photos of the possible team issued jersey (apologies on the massive size)...let me know your thoughts!

This is not determining game use orteam issuance, just some basics about the jersey:

The alpha date code would point to this being a 1991 jersey.

        #54 would be Chris Spielman.

In 1991 the Lions wore a mmoriam patch on the left chest which bore the initials JRT. There is no evidence of this patch or it's imprint from the photos.

Mark may well find other aspects to comment on.

The numeral font is not correct for a gamer. The numbers on gamers were thicker, as seen in the photo. Retail shirts for many NFL teams in the early 1990s used this skinnier font.... Nice shirt though!

I agree with Dave's observations and Anthony's comments about the number font.

I cannot recall seeing any Lions jerseys in my bulk buy of game worn/team issued jerseys that had the alpha date code on the size tag. It was usually a separate flag tag underneath the size tag. Also, I don't recall seeing that particular type of size tag on any Wilson-era Lions jerseys.

Attached is a photo of an early-1990s game-worn Lions jersey made by Wilson with the proper size number font.
