Don't Assume Jerseys On Cards Are Used

    Hey everyone

I saw an upper deck card being auctioned on ebay which seemed worth noting.
It's a swatch from a Yankees jersey with a letter E signed by Jeter. It's obvious that it's not from a game used jersey because the Yankees don't use the name on the back of the jersey.
It made me wonder if the other nameplate letters on these cards are from retail jerseys. I guess I mistakenly assumed that they are from game used jerseys. To be clear, it is not represented anywhere as a game used jersey. I guess the value of this card is in the autograph.

I noticed these things too. They are simply letter cards. Not game worn. Usually letter patch cards are numbered 1/1 being that there is only one of them. These cards seem to number into the 100's. Sort of like a couple of years ago they had players sign a piece of a random bat or the sweet spot of a generic ball. This is just the card companies way to try to entice collectors while cutting their cost in acquiring jerseys.

It is good for the jersey collectors that card companies are trying to find an alternative to cutting up game worn jerseys but at the same time it begs the questions, whatever happened to old fashioned cards? Is it not possible to sell a pack of cards without a gimmick anymore?
