I recently picked up this helmet on ebay. My question is: could it be a Trevor Hoffman helmet?
It has the MLB 125th Anniversary sticker on the back, pinning it to the 1994 season, and it has the remnants of the number 34 on the back. It is a size 7 3/8, and it is a right-handed batter's helmet (ear flap on the left). Scratched into the underside of the bill is the size "7 3/8", along with '92.
Now, Trevor Hoffman's first year with the Padres was 1993, when he wore #34. In 39 games with the Padres, he went 1 for 5 at the plate. According to baseball-reference.com, Trevor was the first Padre to wear #34 since Storm Davis in 1987.
No Padres player wore #34 in 1994 (Trevor switched to #51). In 1995, #34 was worn by Fernando Valenzuela, but he was a left-handed batter.
So, could this helmet have been Trevor's in 1993. Then in 1994, the number was removed and the 125th Anniversary sticker applied, but the helmet never used?
The seller indicated that the helmet was purchased from the Padres, at one of their annual Fan-Fests.

Steve
Steve, I'm no expert on Padres helmets, but I do own what I believe is a Trevor Hoffman helmet. I also purchased it at a fanfest many years ago.
While reading and looking at the pictures on your post, I knew that the size was not right. As you can see that on my helmet that I have ,size is only 7, which I think is more in line with what Trevor Hoffman wore. Maybe the number 34 was given to someone in spring training or a minor leaguer?

Thank you Whoman. I figured it was a longshot, but had to ask.
I am looking for Jon Jay Padres items. I have purchased some from Fanatics game used. Can you purchase items straight from Padres? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank You!
