Tagging, wilson sleeve logos

What specifically about the sleeve logos is incorrect? Here is a photo listed as Jan 1 1987 in gettyimages (which means it's probably an approx. date) which seems to show similar sleeve logos

Eric, without seeing the jersey in person I'd have to agree with jake33 that this is probably a retail version of a Steve Young jersey, but for different reasons. First this jersey does have the correct sleeve logo and Wilson tag. This jersey dates to Feb of 1992. In the 1992 season the 49ers had the Wilson logo on the left sleeve only and it was positioned towards the front, as on this jersey. The wilson tag appears to also be correct for this time period. However, after looking at a few program photos and video tapes from the 1992 season the lettering of the NOB is inconsistent with the lettering that these sources show. Your photo reference for some reason didn't come up on my computer but if its from 1987 it couldn't show the sleeve logo as the 49ers wore Russell jerseys in 1987 and there were no sleeve logos. As most people know there are literally hundreds of Young 49ers jerseys (much like Joe Montana and Jery Rice) floating around due to their being available from retail sources and they are almost (if not totally) identical in all aspects to the game jerseys.

Also, you'd be hard pressed to find someone to buy the jersey as game worn from "i found this in my closet" even if it had team repairs and dirt staining. It just doesn't hold a lot of stock to a serious collector. All jerseys should be PROVEN game worn before assuming anything.

The point is that it might as well be an authentic jersy if you can't provide any background on it and that you found it in a closet with no other story about it.

In comparing my Wilson Detroit Lions jerseys manufactured from 1991 to 1993, I determined that each of my eleven game used shirts has a 1/2" wide size tag.

The authentic I purchased from a retail store, and all of the other Wilson Lions authentics from that era I've seen offered for sale, have a 1" wide size tag. Click the link below for the details, if interested.

I can't speak as to other teams, but the differences on the Lions shirts are consistent.
