    Photomatching: Printing off Getty?

This may in all likelihood be a dumb question, but I recently bought an item that is photo-matched successfully on Getty. It looks like these photos are all private and need permission and/or purchase to acquire one. How do collectors here obtain an 8x10" or other photos from Getty for display purposes? Or is there another way to do this? Thanks in advance.

You contact Getty for the rights, or there's another site (I forget the name, but someone else will certainly know) that does the retail (non-commercial use) sales of photos for Getty. I don't recall the price, but I think it was reasonable, like $20 or something.

Contact photofile.com. Give them the photo number from Getty and they can usually sell it to you. Typically around $10 per image.

Thanks Michael. That's the place I was thinking of. The price is even better than what I thought!

Wow, great information! I figured that there must be a way but Getty never returned any of my email queries. Thanks for the link!

How is the shipping on PhotoFile.

I remember Steiner Photo Store had a nice selection of pictures, but I once saw the shipping price and was so insulted I would never buy anything from them.

$2 bucks maybe. I think it's free shipping on orders over $15.

Hey......I just tried to get my first image off Getty to Photofile for a print......they said it was an NFL image and that they could not do a print for me. Anyone have this happen? What types of images are you guys having success with? Thanks.....Tony

                      Re: Photomatching: Printing off Getty?

Several MLB images. They have a partnership with Getty but there are some images they can't use. I found this message in my email from a rep dated last year sometime.

"Sounds good, we can't use all of the images on Getty images, but if you have something specific you are looking for, I am happy to try & help."

Don't know if there's a specific criteria of ones that they can't use. Just have to request and hope for the best.

                        Re: Photomatching: Printing off Getty?

It used to be easy to tell which ones Photofile had rights to -- generally any Getty photos where the photographer was listed as "Staff" or "Stringer". They don't have rights to pictures provided by the leagues, newspapers, or photographers listed as "Contributors". Getty changed the website recently, and I don't see that information anymore. Also, they have to do separate deals with retired players, so not all ex-players are available.

Ok.....so a pic like this one (Getty #97408316......Lester Hayes) is out of bounds to obtain since it is an NFL image. Darn it.....good pic. Oh well.....

I've not been successful trying to get any Getty images from Photofile on photos I've tried to get. They did not have right to print any of my choices

All of mine are MLB and mostly Red Sox.
