When/Why did Sheffield auto style change?

Sometime around the time Gary Sheffield was with the Yankees, his autograph style changed from a traditional script to the current linear "Arabic" looking autograph that isn't really readable. Does anyone have knowledge about his mid-career change in how he signed his name?

Sheff is/was with Mead Chasky, his autograph signing agent. Like Barry Bonds changing his auto some years ago, most likely was a way to increase sales and worth by changing styles and driving an interest in auto collectors.
