Removing Silver Sharpie from a Football

I recently acquired an autographed game used football with a signature and personalization. I want to remove the personalized part which is a silver sharpie. Does anyone have any experience doing this or have recommendations? Thanks!

Re: Removing Silver Sharpie from a Football

I had a number of years ago acquired a genuine NFL football with Upper Deck Authenticated holo and signed by a first round flop. I got the ball for $20, I just wanted a good leather ball to play with and they retailed for about $80, so this was a good deal. I tried to get the silver sharpie off with goo gone and a few other cleaners that I didn't think would damage the leather. I got most of the sharpie off, but I gave up on trying to completely get it erased after a fair bit of effort.

I did manage to get rid of 95% of the sharpie, but there is still a faint residue that soaked into the leather. Its good enough on my ball we're just throwing around the park, but for a display ball, I'd be really cautious.
