G/U Cards w/foil autographs

Does anyone know how foil autographs are applied to game used cards? I know it doesn't compare to having the actual item but are there any members that like some of the Multiple color G/U jersey cards with autographs?

I detest "game used" cards. If others like them, fine. But I cringe at the thought of cutting up or chopping up game used items for this purpose.

I agree the thought of cutting up a jersey of a HOFer is a crime and should be investigated as to who would do this and why(how much did they get paid). I'm more thinking along the lines of current stars G/U items and that it could be an interesting way to whet the appetite for(very) young collectors to get started in the hobby. To cut a swatch of Jay Payton's Colorado Jersey or Piazza's ripped PANTS,when combined with an autograph,isn't a bad thing and shouldn't be compared to ripping apart a Gehrig jersey.

I've come across at least one instance where this practice has served a noble purpose.

In July of 2001, we had identified in inconguity in a game-used jersey that was being auctioned by American Memorabilia (go figure). The jersey in question, having been identified by AMI as "Craig Morton's Denver Broncos' game-used autographed Super Bowl XII jersey" (game played in 1978) was tagged with a Russell Athletic tail tagging style that didn't come into vogue until 1983, 1 year following the quarterback's retirement. This material fact, at the very least called into question the claim that it had been worn in the Super Bowl 5 years earlier than it was manufacturered, and quite likely called into question whether Morton could have ever worn this jersey at all. AMI, however, was not to be disuaded. Despite being presented with this evidence, they were going to stick with their authenticator's opinion... Kieta's response was, "As the provenance is directly from the "Craig" himself (sic), you can bid with confidence". The auction went on and some unsuspecting sap wound up paying $2,200 for this piece of )*&%.

Fast-forward to August 2002. We came across a sample of the 2002 Donruss Elite Throwback Threads game-worn memorabilia card #TT-14 of quarterback Craig Morton. On the front of the jersey was a little tiny swatch of an orange nylon mesh Broncos jersey and on the back was the caption "This is a photo of the actual jersey from which this swatch was taken" just above the photo of the same jersey from the American Memorabilia auction.

Guess it just goes to show that there is some ironic justice in the world sometimes.
