Spalding Official NBA Game Ball Date Code?

I've seen a two or three letter code on some Spalding NBA Official Game Balls. They are under the inflation valve. Is this a date code? If it is, how does it work? If not, is there a guide somewhere to the stamping on the ball year by year?
