Faded side writing on bat?

First time I've encountered this; is there a trick to getting a little more contrast on faded side writing to make it legible? I just picked up a bat from the 20s and can make out a few words (and the date) but not the whole thing.

You will want to use infrared on your camera or video camera. Works really well.
