Does anyone know the legitimacy of the COA provided for the 20k provence? Have you seen many for sale? Was curious. Thanks, Joe

I know nothing about this ball or the umpire in question, but I've seen many former players and coaches selling stuff with similar LOA's (typically non-star player that picked up something back before collecting this stuff was popular).

That's a pretty cool baseball. Not sure what game used balls usually go for, but I would think that this is probably 1 of maybe 2 or 3 balls from that game that actually comes with decent provenance. Seems like a must-have for any Clemens fan.

For what it is worth, Durwood Merrill was not an umpire at this game according to the box score below. He clearly could have got the ball from one of his umpire colleagues.

Boston Red Sox beat Seattle Mariners (3-1). Apr 29, 1986, Attendance: 13414, Time of Game: 2:39. Visit Baseball-Reference.com for the complete box score, play-by-play, and win probability
