Same SB49 Football.. 2 Different Auctions?

    Hey guys,

I was browsing today and noticed that there is a game used SB 49 ball on the new Lelands auction and also one on NFL Auction that have the same ball marking '52' on the ball. The starting price at Lelands is $300 and the ball at NFL Auctions is currently $900. Both balls are Seahawks stamped but have different NFL COA #'s. The one at Lelands does NOT have a PSA sticker on the actual ball but the NFL Auction one does.

Here are the links to both balls.. would love to hear some feedback on this.

    NFL Auction - http://nflauction.nfl.com/iSynApp/au...tionId=1666993

    Lelands - http://www.lelands.com/bids/bidplace?itemid=82740

    Am I missing something??

I would think too that when you look up a game used ball from NFL Auctions that the ball # should be somewhere in the description. Let's try to make this idiot-proof - the more information the better. NFL Auctions has to start doing a better job with this stuff. Guys are spending boat loads of cash on the premise that this stuff is genuine.

I'm leaning towards the Lelands ball NOT being authentic and maybe someone got a hold of a cert from NFL Auctions as a replacement or something using a picture of a sticker from another ball on the web.

I think it probably is legit. It would be interesting to look at the ball under a black light and see if there is any PSA/DNA mark that they supposedly put on items. Maybe the sticker fell off.

Im not 100% sure but from a quick search, i don't think you can buy footballs with the team name(for super bowl ones).

Why would there be 2 #52 Seahawk balls? It's my understanding that the Patriots had 1-26 & Seattle had 27-52.

Vinovich is ref 52 so that's his mark signifying he approved the ball.

                You are incorrect sir.
2 weeks after that super bowl I purchased 6 balls direct from Wilson.
3 Pats an 3 Seahawks names included.
There's a 99% chance that lelands could be a fake..

From what I read "Each team is shipped 108 official balls, 54 they will offer up as game balls for the Super Bowl and 54 they can set aside for practice".
I guess you have to trust the seller as to whether it's a game ball or practice ball.

Thanks for the info. Could you add a photo of it if you still have one? Also what's the letter code on it? Thanks

That's what the problem is with some NFL auction footballs. They're selling them as game used but there turning out to be practice or back up footballs.

I don't have them or pics of them anymore, I sold them.
But I do remember the code.. HY

My understanding is the ref puts the same mark on all the balls they encounter, whether its a number, or initials, or their own personal stamp. I've seen at least 5 footballs from the Saints/Colts SB 44 that had #19 marked to the right of Roger Goodell's signature.
Here's 2 references of that, that I can find off hand.

You would likely need to ask both action companies to take a picture of the ball laces under a black light just to verify that it falls under the category of either practice, game used, issued, or backup. You'll never 100% know without a photo match.

The Ref for the game was Bill Vinovich #52.
