1990s Yankee Batting Helmet

Picked up this Yankees batting helmet that was made during march of 1990. It has the number 29 on the rear, but you can make out that it used to have 29 on the front brim also. You can also tell that it used to have larger 29 number decals under the small ones.

So does anyone know if the Yankees switched from larger number decals to smaller number decals later in the 1990s?

Also could Jesse Barfield wear a size 7 helmet? These are the other players who wore 29 during the 1990s. Maybe it was used by several of the players.
