    1970 batting helmets question

    Did teams use a vinyl type decal in 70s instead of the plastic type sticky decals you see in 80s? Or did they always use the smooth plastic type decals?

    It depends on the team. In the 1960s, the Cubs used a felt C similar to the cap logo that was affixed with glue or some other type of adhesive. Check 1964 Topps card #550 (Ken Hubbs In Memoriam) for an example. I think these were used for at least part of the '70s, as well.

    Here is Frank Robinson's 1974 Angel's batting helmet & you can see that the club had used a sticker of some sort
