Son of Random Sports Trivia Fact

I can't even find the original thread I started on sports trivia, as it's become hopelessly lost among all of these spam threads that are overwhelming certain areas of this site and which the mods appear to be in no hurry of blocking them. So, I'm starting a new one.

This past Thursday, during the Red Sox/Twins game, Bosox starter Chris Sale pulled off a mound feat only equaled by one other MLB pitcher, and a Hall of Famer, at that.

In the 3rd inning, Sale pitched an immaculate inning against Minnesota, the third of his career. Only Sandy Koufax has ever reached that accomplishment before. For the uninitiated, an "immaculate inning" involves the pitcher not only getting three up and three down, but by doing so to all three hitters on 3 pitches all strikes. No hitting the ball, no balls thrown, no foul balls extending the strike 2 count.

In today's slugfest at Wrigley Field won by the Cubs 11-8 over the pirates, the teams combined to tie an MLB record by belting 3 grand slam HRs in the same game.

Pittsburgh's Bryan Reynolds was first to connect, smacking one in the top of the 3rd inning, only to be matched in the bottom half by Matt Duffy of the Cubs. Frank Schwindel then went yard with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th, giving the Cubs the lead back, which ended up being the final score.

On Tuesday evening in Miami, Pete Alonzo of the Mets clubbed his 31st HR of the season, and the 100th round-tripper of his MLB career. Doing so gave him 100 HR in his 347th MLB game, putting him in second in regards to hitters and the fastest ascents to the 100 HR mark in their MLB careers. He is only led currently by former Phillies 1B Ryan Howard, who hit the century mark in his 325th game in The Show.

In Thursday' night's Buccaneers victory over Dallas, Bucs TE Rob Gronkowski ended the game atop the NFL record books by catching 2 TD passes from Tom Brady. That gave Gronk the NFL record for most career multiple TD catch games by a tight end (22).

In Saturday evening's DH sweep over the Orioles, the Blue Jays, after being no-hit for 6 innings in Game 2, exploded in the 7th, tying team all-time records by collecting both 11 runs and 11 hits.

Max Scherzer of the Dodgers became the 19th MLB pitcher to amass at least 3,000 strikeouts in his career, whiffing Eric Hosmer of the Padres during Sunday's game between the two NL West rivals.

Week 1 of the NFL produced an unusual result.

All 4 NFC North teams...the Bears, Packers, Vikings and Lions...played opponents outside of their own division, and all 4 LOST. That has not happened in Week 1 to the NFC North since 2013.

Salvador Perez is on the verge of setting a new MLB record. After going yard earlier today against Oakland, the Royals slugger is now tied with HoFer Johnny Bench for slugging the most HR in a single season by a primary catcher (45). The term defines a catcher who plays at least 75% of a team's games.

Thursday's 17-8 Cubs loss to the Phillies gave the Cubs an unmatched, and unpleasant first in MLB history.

The 2021 Cubs are the first MLB team ever to twice in a season hold a lead of 7 or more runs, only to lose by 8 or more runs. This set of circumstances first befell them during the current season back on 6/30, when a 7-0 lead over the Brewers ended up as a 15-7 Cubs defeat.

In Sunday's Cubs win over the Brewers in Milwaukee, Chicago's Patrick Wisdom belted a 400-foot 3-run HR to center field. This circuit clout gave him 27 for the season, a new Cubs rookie HR record, breaking the old one set by Kris Bryant.
