Perez is now the new all-time recordholder in this category, passing Johnny Bench by clubbing his 46th dinger of 2021 against the Indians on Sunday.

Shohei Ohtani smacked his 45th HR of the season Monday night in a 10-5 loss to the Astros. While the homer itself was a positive accomplishment, it also put Ohtani in the record books with a rather dubious notation.

It marked the 13th time this year that Ohtani homered in a game in which his team lost by 4 runs or more. That ties him with Sammy Sosa for an all-time MLB record (Sosa did so with the 1999 Cubs).
